The Scottish Society for Northern Studies (SSNS) offers a limited number of Postgraduate/Early Career Research Grants annually to support research-related activities in subjects relevant to its aims. The Society encourages research on the interactions and influences of the Scandinavian, Celtic, and Scottish worlds, spanning archaeology, history, place-name studies, literature, language, and manuscript studies.
The grant contributes towards acquiring an additional qualification or essential skill for an academic research programme or career development, such as learning a new language. It also supports relevant fieldwork outside a regular academic programme or home institution. Activities must connect with the applicant’s studies or career progression and the Society’s objectives, with support intended for researchers whose funding from other sources is insufficient.
