Summary: Supports African-led research on peacebuilding, governance, and developmental changes in conflict-affected countries and sub-regions in Africa.
The African Peacebuilding and Developmental Dynamics (APDD) Program is a Social Science Research Council initiative building on the African Peacebuilding Network and Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa program. It advances African-led scholarship on peacebuilding, governance, and developmental changes in conflict-affected countries and sub-regions. Its focus includes evolving patterns of conflict, development, and inequality, emerging actors, and interactions between local and external forces.
APDD supports innovative, field-based research on technological change, environmental change, political transitions, migration, and resource extraction—and their effects on conflict, peace, and security in Africa. Research and doctoral fellowships, training, conferences, and seminars foster innovation and research capacity. Policy dialogues and briefings connect scholarship with practice, while publications, digital forums, and university partnerships amplify African thought leadership and strengthen scholarly networks.
