Description
The Larry L. Hillblom Foundation Start-Up Grant is designed to help launch the independent research careers of promising early-stage investigators at California institutions. The program focuses on research relevant to diabetes (including metabolic syndrome and its complications) and age-related brain or vision disorders (including studies of healthy aging). The grant provides substantial resources for new faculty to establish their own research labs and pursue projects distinct from their mentors. Institutional commitment to the investigator’s long-term success—including provision of a faculty appointment, research space, and core facilities—is a key requirement. Awardees are expected to devote significant effort to their proposed research and participate in the Foundation’s annual scientific meeting.
