Description
The State and Tribal Wildlife Grants Program, administered by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF), provides federal funding to support proactive conservation of nongame species and their habitats in Louisiana. The program’s primary goal is to prevent species from becoming threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act by funding research, monitoring, habitat management, and conservation planning for Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) and priority habitats. Projects may include biological inventories, ecological research, habitat assessments, management actions, and the development of databases or monitoring programs.
Grant priorities are set annually and align with the Louisiana State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP), which is revised every ten years. The SWAP identifies SGCN, key habitats, major threats, and research or conservation actions needed for effective management. Applicants are strongly encouraged to align proposals with the SWAP and the annual priority list.
