Description
The Utah Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Quality (DWQ) offers State Nonpoint Source Grants through its Hardship Grant Fund. The program supports voluntary, incentive-based best management practices that reduce runoff pollution and address critical water quality needs throughout Utah. State grants are suited to smaller-scale implementation projects, educational initiatives, technical assistance, animal feeding operation waste management, and hardship-based septic repair or replacement.
Priorities include innovative, nature-based restoration, healthy riparian areas and rangelands, and low-impact stormwater practices outside stormwater permits. Grants also support watershed planning, effectiveness monitoring, engineering design, watershed-group capacity, citizen science, and education that encourages behavior change. Coordinated watershed-scale efforts and projects aligned with approved Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) or existing Watershed-Based Plans are encouraged.
