Description
State Wildlife Grants are federal funds administered in Arkansas by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC). The program supports monitoring, research, protection, and management of nongame wildlife whose needs are not addressed by funding for game or endangered species. AGFC uses a competitive grant process to support implementation of the Arkansas Wildlife Action Plan and its science-based conservation priorities.
The plan identifies species of greatest conservation need and the habitats they depend on across Arkansas. Projects have studied species’ distribution and habitat needs, assessed threats to streams, and restored prairies, woodlands, wetlands, and aquatic habitats. The work is intended to inform conservation decisions and help stop wildlife declines.
