Description
This cooperative agreement provides financial and technical assistance to state, local, and tribal public health agencies and their bona fide agents to develop or expand occupational safety and health (OSH) surveillance capacity. The program aims to strengthen the ability of public health systems to monitor work-related injuries, illnesses, exposures, and hazards using diverse data sources such as electronic medical records, hospital discharge databases, death records, cancer registries, and public health surveys.
Grantees will use surveillance findings to inform voluntary interventions, education, and outreach activities to improve worker health and safety. The emphasis is on filling gaps not addressed by regulatory programs and leveraging public health approaches to identify new problems, develop tailored interventions, and evaluate impacts. The program is managed by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) within CDC.
