The Oregon Historical Society’s Donald J. Sterling, Jr. Fellowships in Pacific Northwest History support original, scholarly, and interpretive research in its Portland research library. Endowed by the family of Donald J. Sterling, Jr., the program offers two fellowships annually and connects collections-based research with the development of an article-length manuscript for possible publication in the Oregon Historical Quarterly.
The library’s manuscripts, maps, photographs, and other resources cover business and economic development, labor, the arts, conservation and land use, migration, politics and government, and the activities of women and ethnic groups. The fellowship prioritizes suitable research topics with the potential to make a significant contribution to historical scholarship on Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Applicants need not be professional historians.
