Description
The International Literacy Association (ILA) awards this grant biennially in memory of Steven A. Stahl. Established by Katherine Dougherty Stahl, it encourages a promising graduate student with substantial teaching experience to investigate questions arising from classroom practice. The research may include action research, but must address reading and literacy instruction rather than reading research in general.
The proposed study must be empirically rigorous and focused on improving how reading is taught and strengthening children’s reading achievement. ILA selects a recipient only when its review committee finds a high-quality application that meets the grant’s standards.
