Description
The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Medical Editing Fellowship provides one faculty member a yearlong experience with the editorial and publishing teams at Family Medicine, STFM’s scientific journal. The part-time, virtual program combines coaching with hands-on journal work to improve scientific writing, reviewing, and editing skills.
The fellow learns to assess the quality and value of research papers and narrative essays, evaluate submissions, and use the journal’s manuscript submission process and editorial software. Working as an assistant editor, the fellow selects peer reviewers, follows up on reviews, and writes professional decision letters. Mentoring and supervised editorial work also introduce the steps between manuscript acceptance and publication and the ethical principles that guide scientific journals.
