Description
The Stormwater Local Assistance Fund (SLAF), administered by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), provides matching grants to local governments for stormwater best management practices (BMPs). It supports planning, design, and implementation that address cost efficiency and commitments to reducing water quality pollutant loads.
Eligible work includes new stormwater BMPs, retrofits of existing practices, stream restoration, low impact development, buffer restoration, pond retrofits, and wetlands restoration. The program also supports purchases of permanent, certified non-point source nutrient credits. Projects connect to water quality commitments such as Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) obligations, local impaired-stream TMDLs, Chesapeake Bay Watershed Implementation Plan requirements, or requirements associated with permitting small municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s).
