Description
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) administers the Stormwater Local Assistance Fund to support local governments in planning, designing, and implementing cost-efficient stormwater best management practices (BMPs) that reduce water quality pollutant loads. The fund supports capital projects that install or improve practices, including new BMPs, BMP retrofits, stream restoration, low impact development, buffer restoration, pond retrofits, and wetlands restoration.
The fund can also support purchases of permanent, certified non-point source nutrient credits. DEQ solicits applications in years when a state appropriation is available; its FY 2027 solicitation covers both stormwater projects and nutrient credit purchases.
