Description
The Strengthening Mothers Through Perinatal Research Award supports graduate research into woman-centered, holistic and physiologic maternity care. Administered by UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, the award is offered annually by Beverley O’Brien, a UBC Nursing alumna, Professor Emerita in the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Nursing, and Registered Midwife. The focus of the graduate work must be strengthening mothers through the development of research evidence.
Research quality and relevance carry the greatest weight in selection, including a project’s merit, potential significance, clarity and feasibility. The award also recognizes scholarly excellence, independent research, professional leadership, community service and personal qualities such as integrity, respectful collaboration and motivation to make a difference.
