Description
The Study of Collections Fellowships are administered by the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) to support members undertaking collections-based research. Eligible collections include museum and archival collections, repositories, and collections held by national authorities. Funding supports travel, per diem, and limited other direct research expenses rather than institutional overhead.
The program’s research interests center on the Near East and wider Mediterranean. Supported projects have examined archaeological objects, inscriptions, textiles, sculpture, and excavation archives, using existing collections to address questions about these regions’ history and cultures. A committee of ASOR members and staff reviews proposals, considering research quality, the scope and type of material being studied, and the proposed research’s potential impact.
