    Description

SU-CASA is a community arts engagement program placing artists and organizations in collaborative residencies at senior centers across New York City’s five boroughs. Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) administers the Manhattan placements for individual artists and small collectives, anticipating 30 residencies in 2027. The program aims to improve older adults’ well-being through arts-based, process-oriented activities.

Projects may use any artistic discipline and include classes, workshops, participatory art-making, relevant field trips, or guest artists. The emphasis is on hands-on learning, adaptive teaching, creative experimentation, and responsive collaboration with older adults. Residencies include a public component sharing participants’ learning and creative expression with the surrounding community; finalized or polished work is not required. LMCC particularly encourages multilingual artists and work rooted in Manhattan’s Black, Indigenous, and immigrant communities.
