The Summer Medical Internship Program (SMIP) provides medical students with a unique, hands-on introduction to interventional radiology (IR) research and medical device development. Over eight weeks, selected interns work directly with IR physician-scientists or corporate research mentors at leading academic medical centers or industry sites. The program is designed to foster research skills, critical thinking, and early career interest in IR by supporting a focused research project, offering clinical exposure, and integrating students into multidisciplinary research teams. Interns are expected to complete a research project suitable for presentation at national meetings and to engage fully in the academic environment of their host institution.
