    Description

Banff Centre’s Summer Opera brings emerging and early-career singers, conductors, and stage directors together for intensive artistic development in contemporary opera. An international faculty supports rehearsals, coaching, masterclasses, role study, and collaborative creation, emphasizing musical and dramatic excellence, experimentation, and flexible, responsive artistic practice.

The 2027 repertoire includes new operas by Niloufar Nourbakhsh and Cecilia Livingston alongside selected classical opera scenes. Participants undertake vocal coaching, musical preparation, language work, acting, movement, dramatic interpretation, and conducting or directing mentorship. Collaboration with singers, pianists, conductors, and creative teams leads to public performances, informal sharings, and community events. Rehearsal studios, coaching rooms, pianos, production resources, and professional performance venues support this immersive work.
