Description
The Summer Program in Social Science, hosted by the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), is an interdisciplinary initiative aimed at early-career scholars from Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. Conducted in partnership with the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER) at the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, the program brings together approximately twenty scholars for a multi-year cycle of collaborative research, workshops, and scholarly exchange.
The program’s core objectives are to:
- Foster dialogue across diverse intellectual traditions and disciplines within the social sciences.
- Support the development and presentation of advanced research projects.
- Strengthen international networks among social scientists from the Global South.
- Emphasize both local contexts of knowledge production and global circulation of ideas.
Workshops are held in English (Princeton and Johannesburg) and Spanish (Bogotá), and the program covers all travel, accommodation, and meal expenses for participants. Research themes are open across all social science disciplines and neighboring fields.
