    Description

Applied Microbiology International (AMI) funds summer research placements that give undergraduates, recent graduates, and Master’s students practical, hands-on experience in applied microbiology. Projects can take place in academic, industry, or clinical settings and are intended to build technical skills, foster curiosity, and inspire future careers in the field. Supervisors apply with input from the student, developing a research plan for a placement during the summer vacation period.

The programme prioritises original, relevant research with scientific merit and a meaningful contribution to the student’s academic and professional development. Funding supports student stipends and laboratory expenses. Students also receive an AMI Taster Membership and complimentary registration for the Letters in Applied Microbiology ECS Research Symposium, providing opportunities to present their work and connect with the wider microbiology community.
