The Royal Microscopical Society’s Summer Studentships give undergraduate students practical research experience, usually during the summer months. They support projects that students may not be able to undertake within their degree programme, or allow them to explore a subject that has sparked their interest. Each project lasts six weeks and must include a significant microscopy, imaging or flow cytometry component.
The Society offers up to six studentships annually, divided evenly between physical sciences, biological sciences and interdisciplinary projects. Alongside research experience, the programme gives students opportunities to communicate their work through a project report for the Society’s in focus magazine and/or website, and a short recording about their experience for the RMS YouTube channel.
