Description
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Summer Tribal Youth Program helps federally recognized tribes and bands domiciled in Wisconsin create summer programs for members ages 13–19. Youth work on natural resource conservation projects while learning about careers in the field. Tribes and bands can shape projects around their culture, location, resources and young people; one proposal may include multiple projects.
Projects must have defined goals and measurable objectives, plus mentorship or educational components. DNR encourages participants to share their experiences with tribal councils, elders or other youth. After the program, tribes and bands gather participants’ views on their projects and interest in natural resources careers for the final report.
