    Description

The Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) Summer Undergraduate Research Grants support research planned and conducted by undergraduate students at Kentucky colleges and universities under faculty supervision. One of the Academy’s two undergraduate research grant programs, it funds summer research in the physical, biological, behavioral, and engineering sciences. Funding supports costs directly associated with carrying out the project, including supplies, equipment, research-related travel, and a student summer stipend.

The program emphasizes significant, feasible research with clear objectives, appropriate methods, and an explicit student role. Reviewers consider innovation, contributions within the academic discipline, educational quality, and problem-based focus, alongside available resources and institutional support. Beginning with the 2027 awards, KAS gives preference to applications from institutions primarily focused on undergraduate teaching; members at research institutions remain welcome to apply.
