Description
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEPs) program enables community-based air quality, pollution prevention, and environmental education projects to be funded from penalties collected during the settlement of air quality enforcement actions. SEPs are designed to benefit communities harmed or at risk from pollution, especially those that are disadvantaged or vulnerable, by supporting efforts such as pollution prevention, community outreach, environmental education, and community-led air quality monitoring. Funding is not provided on a regular application cycle; instead, opportunities arise when enforcement actions result in settlements that include a SEP component.
