Description
The Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) is a federal highway funding program administered in Washington by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). WSDOT describes it as its most flexible highway program and a major source of financial support for local agencies. It can support highway and bridge work, transit capital projects, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, recreational trails, and ferry boats and terminals.
WSDOT allocates local STBG funds to metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and county lead agencies. They set selection procedures and choose projects through public processes tied to regional or county-wide priorities. WSDOT also sets annual project-delivery targets for each organization and lead agency.
