Description
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) administers the Surface Transportation Program–Local (STP-Local) to improve non-federal-aid roadways outside urbanized areas. It supports a variety of improvements to roads and streets functionally classified as minor collectors or local roads in areas with populations below 50,000. WisDOT sets aside 15% of its STP-Rural and STP-Urban allocations for areas under 50,000 for the program.
Projects are selected competitively by a committee with members from the Wisconsin County Highway Association, Wisconsin Towns Association, and League of Wisconsin Municipalities. Selection considers economic impact, state of good repair, connectivity, regional or local significance, and equitable geographic distribution.
