Description
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) administers the Surface Transportation Program–Rural to improve federal-aid-eligible highways outside urban areas, primarily county trunk highways. Funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the program supports a range of transportation improvements on higher-function local roads not on the State Trunk Highway system, including local safety improvements.
WisDOT manages a five-state-fiscal-year schedule of projects. For the 2026–2031 program cycle, its materials describe adjustments to projects scheduled for 2027–2029 and the addition of approved projects for 2030–2031.
