Description
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) administers the Surface Transportation Program–Urban (STP-U) to improve transportation on federal-aid-eligible roads and streets in Wisconsin’s urban areas. Funded through the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the program supports a range of transportation work, including improvements to higher-function local roads outside the State Trunk Highway system and local safety improvements.
WisDOT allocates funding across urban-area population groups and uses a statewide formula ranking process for communities in smaller urban areas. The application also provides for planning, administration, mass-transit-related, bicycle/pedestrian-related, and other non-infrastructure project requests. WisDOT schedules approved projects through a multiyear program.
