Summary: Supports innovative, hypothesis-driven research into inflammatory breast cancer biology to improve patient care and outcomes.
Key Information: Each institution may nominate only one applicant; applicants cannot self-nominate.
Susan G. Komen supports innovative, hypothesis-driven research that advances understanding of the biological mechanisms driving inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), a rare and highly aggressive disease. The program seeks new ideas and areas of investigation with significant potential to improve IBC patient care and outcomes. It addresses gaps in biological knowledge that hinder the development of IBC-specific biomarkers and targeted therapies.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to address IBC onset and development, metastatic dissemination, or monitoring and detection. Relevant work includes tumor and host microenvironments, genetic factors, epigenetic and proteomic drivers, biological contributors to health disparities, cell migration, therapeutic response, minimal residual disease, prognostication, and theragnostic strategies. Shared research tools, models, datasets, and other resources are also encouraged, particularly when they enable new investigations or inform larger-scale studies.
