The Sustainable Mentorship Program (SMP) by the American Musicological Society offers a comprehensive, year-long mentorship and professional development experience for individuals with advanced training in musicology and related disciplines. The program supports participants through three tailored mentoring streams: Diverse Careers, Publishing Your Work, and Getting Funded. Each stream addresses specific professional development needs, such as exploring career options inside and outside academia, navigating the publication process, or learning to secure research funding.
Mentees participate in regular virtual meetings with experienced mentors, receive individualized support, and engage in cohort-based networking and development activities. The program also includes a networking event at the AMS Annual Meeting, with registration fees waived for mentees. The SMP is committed to fostering an inclusive environment and particularly encourages applications from members of historically underrepresented groups.
