    Description

The Symington Bequest provides Anatomical Society members with contributions towards the costs of anatomical research, most commonly presenting and participating in scientific meetings. The fund was established through Nina Symington’s bequest in memory of her father, Professor Johnson Symington, to encourage anatomical research. Its Trustees can also support specific research purposes and special objects benefiting anatomical research; initial grants helped establish the Human Embryo Database.

Past awards demonstrate a scope extending beyond conference attendance to laboratory visits, specialist courses, workshops and equipment acquisition. Supported activities have included research into embalming, learning molecular anatomy techniques, examining human skeletal remains and acquiring a digitiser and associated equipment. Meeting awards have supported participation in anatomy, developmental biology, neuroscience, tissue engineering and medical education events.
