Key Information: This is a forecasted call; all dates and details are subject to confirmation in the official call launch.
The ERC Synergy Grant is designed to fund ambitious, transformative research projects that require a collaborative approach by a group of two to four Principal Investigators (PIs), each bringing complementary expertise and resources. The scheme targets research questions so complex or interdisciplinary that they cannot be addressed by a single PI and team. Proposals are welcome from any field of research and are judged solely on scientific excellence, with a particular emphasis on the synergistic value of the collaboration.
Projects must be hosted at public or private research organizations (Host Institutions) in EU Member States or countries associated with Horizon Europe, with the possibility for one PI per group to be based outside these areas. The grant encourages innovative, high-risk/high-gain projects and supports teams of any nationality. The evaluation process involves a rigorous three-step peer review, including interviews, and all funded projects must comply with strict ethics and research integrity standards.
