Summary: Supports private commercial fleets installing electric vehicle chargers with on-site renewable generation and/or energy storage in New Jersey.
Key Information: Projects must include renewable generation and/or storage that supplies or stores power for the chargers.
Take Charge is a $25 million pilot program administered by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) and funded through Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative auction proceeds. It helps private commercial fleets reduce the cost of installing electric vehicle charging infrastructure, accelerate transportation electrification, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Charging-as-a-service providers and property owners installing infrastructure for eligible partner fleets may also apply.
Projects combine new Level 2 or Direct Current Fast Charging stations with on-site renewable energy generation and/or energy storage. Supported work includes electrical make-ready upgrades, site improvements, and assessment, engineering, and design. The required generation or storage component is intended to manage charger demand, improve grid utilization, and prepare fleets to participate in Virtual Power Plant (VPP) or managed charging programs.
