Description
The Takken Student Research Presentation Travel Award is administered by the Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG). It helps women geoscience students defray the expenses of presenting their own research at national or international professional geoscience meetings. The support is for meeting-related expenses rather than the research itself, and presentations at the Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America are excluded.
The award honors Suzanne Takken (1925–1997), an avid traveler and supporter of women in geoscience. Takken had a long career as a petroleum geologist in Oklahoma City, served as AWG president from 1989 to 1990, and was an AWG Foundation director from 1996 to 1997.
