Description
The Simons Foundation’s Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MPS) division runs Targeted Grants to Institutes to help established institutes and research centers extend and enhance their missions. The program focuses on mathematics, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science, supporting activities that strengthen contacts within the international scientific community rather than providing primary support for operating or establishing an institute.
Support can bring researchers together through visiting scholar programs, postdoctoral support, research exchanges, conferences, workshops and summer schools. Funding is flexible and may cover researcher salaries and benefits, visitors’ travel and living expenses, scientific meetings and administration of supported activities. For institutes in developing countries, the foundation also considers how support can stimulate scientific progress and connect researchers to the scientific mainstream.
