Description
The Targeted Outreach for Pregnant Women Act (TOPWA) program is administered by the Florida Department of Health’s Bureau of Communicable Diseases, HIV/AIDS Section. It funds perinatal HIV prevention programs that identify and engage pregnant women living with HIV, at increased risk of acquiring HIV, or facing barriers to adequate prenatal care. Priority populations include women with substance use disorders, mental health needs, socioeconomic instability, or limited healthcare access.
Programs connect clients to prenatal and HIV-related services and support retention throughout pregnancy and postpartum. Funded work includes community outreach, education, screening and testing, prevention services, and care navigation. The program seeks improved maternal and infant health, increased viral suppression, and reduced perinatal HIV transmission, aligned with Florida’s High Impact Prevention and Ending the HIV Epidemic goals.
