This grant supports research projects by scholars working in areas central to the American Society for Theatre Research’s (ASTR) mission that are currently under-represented in the organization and the broader field. Eligible topics include, but are not limited to, Asian, African, Latin American, and Middle Eastern theatre, dance, and performance; pre-1900 research; and other topics not widely represented in theatre studies. The grant also considers translations of significant theatre documents, including plays. The intent is to foster research that expands the diversity and scope of theatre and performance scholarship, with recipients encouraged to share their work with the academic community, notably through submission to the journal Theatre Survey.
