Description
The Kansas Water Office (KWO) administers Technical Assistance Fund Grants through the State Water Infrastructure Grant Program. The fund supports the preparatory work Kansas municipalities and water-related special districts need to develop projects addressing water quantity and quality. Eligible activities include planning, engineering design, asset management planning, feasibility and regionalization studies, environmental reviews, and assistance preparing grant or loan applications. Drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and both hard and green infrastructure projects may qualify.
Established in 2023 under HB 2302, the program was updated by HB 2462 in 2026 with revised eligibility, scoring, and administration requirements. Awards are competitive and support long-term water security, infrastructure modernization, and community resilience. Funding authority extends through FY 2029, with availability dependent on annual appropriations, demand, and legislative authority.
