    Description

The Iowa NSF EPSCoR Chemurgy 2.0 Seed Funding Programs provide support for both research/technology development and education/workforce development projects that align with Iowa’s strategic goals in biomanufacturing and sustainable materials. The programs are designed to catalyze innovative research, technology transfer, and outreach initiatives that expand Iowa’s capacity and reputation as a leader in advanced biomanufacturing. Funding is available through two main tracks:

    • Technology Development/Technology Transfer (TD/TT) Seed Fund: Supports high-impact, high-risk, and potentially transformative research in technology development or transfer, with strong potential for attracting future federal funding and generating economic impact in Iowa.
    • Education & Workforce Development (EWD) Seed Fund: Supports pilot or starter projects that increase awareness, engagement, and persistence in biomanufacturing, focusing on curriculum development, outreach, and workforce pipeline expansion, especially for Iowa’s high school and undergraduate students.

Both programs emphasize projects that demonstrate alignment with Chemurgy 2.0’s focal areas: Plastics for Additive Manufacturing, Fibers for Flexible and Rigid Materials, and Proteins for Diagnostics and Therapeutics.
