Description
The Australian Academy of Science administers Participation Support Grants through the Theo Murphy Initiative (Australia), with the wider initiative supported by the Royal Society. The grants help early- and mid-career researchers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics attend conferences, symposia, workshops, training and other professional development activities relevant to their fields.
The program focuses on equitable access rather than research merit. It addresses additional costs associated with caring responsibilities, accessibility requirements, mobility support and other practical barriers that could otherwise make participation difficult or impossible. Support can cover registration, travel, accommodation, childcare and accessibility assistance, including an accompanying carer where needed. It funds participation rather than research projects. Eligible applicants are not guaranteed funding; a computer-generated random selection process applies when eligible demand exceeds available funding.
