    Description

The Society for the Anthropology of Food and Nutrition (SAFN) administers this annual award to honor Dr. Thomas Marchione’s legacy as a scholar-activist. It supports graduate students whose proposed, ongoing, or completed research continues and expands his work on food justice, food security and access, and food as a human right, in domestic or international contexts.

The program emphasizes active, productive engagement with food security and food sovereignty, concern for poor and undernourished people, and a willingness to work on behalf of food sovereignty. It favors research exploring sustainable approaches to fulfilling the right to food, with preference for students actively engaged in the central issues of Marchione’s career.
