Description
The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Programs administers this competitive Title II funding in partnership with the Governor’s Juvenile Justice Commission. It supports local positive youth development programs for delinquent youth and youth at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. Programs should reflect their communities’ needs and strengths while helping young people develop safety, belonging, self-worth, independence and close relationships.
Projects may offer mentoring, mental health services, family strengthening or wraparound support, and after-school educational, recreational or employment activities. The commission prefers evidence-based and promising approaches. It encourages early intervention, connections with supportive adults, accessible safe spaces, and work addressing racial and ethnic disparities, rural youth, gender-specific needs, alternatives to detention and family support.
