The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS), through its Grants Management Unit (GMU), administers this federal pass-through reimbursement program to expand child welfare legal services statewide. It supports agency attorneys and attorneys providing independent representation to children in or candidates for Title IV-E foster care and their parents. The program prioritizes children’s safety, permanence for children in out-of-home care, and high-quality representation throughout child welfare proceedings.
Funding supports attorneys and the paralegals, investigators, peer partners, social workers, and administrative staff assisting their legal work. Activities include investigating facts, meeting clients, participating in case planning, preparing documents and witnesses, presenting hearings, and handling foster care appeals. The program seeks to protect legal rights, ensure parties’ wishes are heard, and improve engagement in case planning, services, and hearings.
