Summary: The Tony Clark Memorial Fund supports scientific work within archaeological investigations through the Royal Archaeological Institute's annual research grants.
Key Information: Two independent referees are required, including one external to the applicant's institution.
The Tony Clark Memorial Fund is administered by the Royal Archaeological Institute (RAI) as part of its annual research funding programme. It specifically supports scientific elements of archaeological projects, rather than archaeological research generally. Eligible research activities include fieldwork, survey, excavation and post-excavation research, architectural recording and analysis, and artefact and art-historical research.
The Institute particularly encourages small projects and participation by part-time and amateur archaeologists, architectural historians and historians. Preference normally goes to projects relating to and undertaken within the British Isles with significant amateur, part-time or volunteer involvement. All projects must include public outreach proposals explaining who will be engaged and how. Funding is limited, and the Institute rarely meets a project's total costs unless these are small.
