Description
Tradition and Modernity in Taiwan (TMT) is administered by American Councils for International Education in partnership with the Chinese Language Center at Tamkang University in New Taipei City. The program combines Mandarin language learning with English-taught academic study, lectures, seminars, and cultural excursions. Students explore Taiwan’s history, democratic development, contemporary identity, and global role while connecting with local university peers and community members.
Academic topics include Cross-Strait and U.S.–China relations, Taiwanese history and culture, and the relationship between politics, economics, and technology. Chinese instruction is offered in small groups matched to students’ proficiency, including beginners. The program is self-funded, with partial scholarship support available through Taiwan’s Ministry of Education based on academic merit and financial need.
