Description
Traditional Arts Apprenticeships is an annual grant from the Idaho Commission on the Arts supporting a learning partnership between a recognized mentor artist and one or more qualified apprentices. The program helps carry forward artistic traditions rooted in a shared cultural heritage, placing the relationship between artists at the center of its support.
Funding supports learning and practicing an existing tradition rather than a standalone artistic project. Apprentices should bring some background in the art form and a commitment to continue practicing after the apprenticeship ends. The partnership must also bring the tradition into a public setting through a presentation or demonstration. Review considers the mentor’s recognition, the apprentice’s commitment, the tradition’s community significance, and the practicality of the proposed learning plan.
