The Fisheries Society of the British Isles (FSBI) offers competitive Training Grants to help its members attend courses and develop skills relevant to fish biology, fisheries science, research, and future career plans. Training may be online or in person. The programme supports training connected with the Society’s objectives, with preference given to early-career candidates embarking on careers in fish biology or fisheries science involving finfish.
Supported subjects range from practical fisheries management and statistical techniques to fish behaviour, fisheries genomics, scientific writing, stock assessment, and fishery management evaluations. The Society’s example courses are not an exhaustive list. Workshops are normally excluded unless they contain substantial core training with specific training objectives. Recipients’ feedback helps FSBI assess course quality and advise others about training providers.
