This forecasted NIH Common Fund initiative will support the development of transformative technologies—both experimental and computational—for comprehensive characterization and functional analysis of the RNome (the full set of RNA molecules in cells and tissues). The program aims to overcome major limitations in current RNA research methods by funding early-stage, high-risk projects that have not been demonstrated at scale or in biologically relevant systems. Supported projects may include new tools for sequencing RNA, detecting modifications, analyzing structure, studying function, and profiling RNA across molecules, cells, and tissues. The initiative is part of the RNomics program, which encompasses technology enhancement centers, transformative technologies, molecular standards, and a coordinating center.
