--- ## Description The Transfusion Medicine Fellowship at Mayo Clinic’s Rochester, Minnesota campus is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program designed to provide in-depth clinical and laboratory training across all aspects of transfusion medicine and blood banking. Fellows gain “vein-to-vein” experience, including donor recruitment, advanced serology, blood component production, cellular therapy, therapeutic and donor apheresis, histocompatibility testing, infectious disease testing, and clinical consultation. The program also emphasizes quality, regulatory activities, administration, and research opportunities, preparing graduates for careers in academic centers, hospital blood banks, or as research investigators. --- ## Due Dates - January 1, 2027: Full application deadline (completed application and all required documentation due no later than Jan. 1, 18 months prior to the program start date) --- ## Funding Amount - The fellowship provides a one-year salaried position with full benefits. - Up to two fellowship positions are available each academic year. - Stipend and benefits are in line with Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education standards. --- ## Eligibility - Applicants must be physicians with American citizenship or hold a valid U.S. visa. - Must meet the subspecialty certification requirements for the Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine board examination offered by the American Board of Pathology (ABP), including: - Primary certification from the ABP, or - Current primary specialty certification with another American Board of Medical Specialties board. - Mayo Clinic encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds, especially those who have overcome significant adversity or come from underrepresented groups. - See the [American Board of Pathology website](https://www.abpath.org/) for detailed certification requirements. --- ## Application Process - Applications must be submitted online via the [Recruit application portal](https://mccms.elluciancrmrecruit.com/Apply/Account/Login). - Required materials include: - Completed application form - Three letters of recommendation (submitted through the portal) - Standard application materials as detailed on the [Mayo Clinic admissions page](https://college.mayo.edu/academics/residencies-and-fellowships/admissions-and-benefits/application-process/) - Interviews are by invitation only. - The academic year begins in July. - Applications and all required documentation must be received by January 1, 18 months prior to the program start date.
