--- ## Description The Mayo Clinic Transfusion Medicine Fellowship in Rochester, Minnesota, is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program designed to provide comprehensive clinical and laboratory training in blood banking and transfusion medicine. Fellows gain extensive experience in donor recruitment, blood component production, immunohematology, cellular therapy, stem cell collection, therapeutic apheresis, histocompatibility testing, and quality management. The program leverages Mayo Clinic's high-volume transplant programs, Level I Trauma Center, and one of North America's busiest therapeutic apheresis services to prepare fellows for leadership roles in academic, hospital, or research settings. The curriculum includes hands-on rotations, didactic lectures, research opportunities, and teaching experience. --- ## Due Dates - January 1, 2027: Application submission deadline (completed application and all required documentation due no later than Jan. 1, 18 months before the July program start) --- ## Funding Amount - Fellows receive a full salary and benefits for the duration of the one-year program, in line with Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education standards. - Two fellowship positions are available annually. --- ## Eligibility - Applicants must be physicians who are U.S. citizens or hold a valid U.S. visa. - Must meet subspecialty certification requirements for the blood banking/transfusion medicine board exam offered by the American Board of Pathology (ABP). - This typically requires primary certification from the ABP or current primary specialty certification with another American Board of Medical Specialties board. - Mayo Clinic encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds, especially those from underrepresented groups, economically disadvantaged backgrounds, rural areas, or who have overcome significant adversity. --- ## Application Process - Applications must be submitted online through the [Recruit application portal](https://mccms.elluciancrmrecruit.com/Apply/Account/Login). - Application materials required include: - Completed application form - Three letters of recommendation (submitted via the online system) - Standard supporting documents as specified by Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education (e.g., CV, transcripts, personal statement) - Early submission is strongly encouraged.
