Funder: Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research
Due Dates: Rolling (applications accepted year-round)
Funding Amounts: Up to $75,000 for one year; no salary, equipment, indirect, or travel costs allowed.
Summary: Supports junior anesthesia investigators in bridging from mentored research to independent grant funding by providing resources for resubmission of major grant applications.
Key Information: Must have completed a FAER Mentored Research Training Grant within the past two years and be revising a scored but unfunded independent research application.
The Transition to Independence Grant (TIG) is designed to assist junior faculty anesthesiologist researchers as they move from mentored, training-focused research support to independent, non-mentored research funding. The grant provides resources and protected time to help revise and resubmit applications for major independent research awards (such as NIH R01, R21, VA Merit, AHRQ, or equivalent), supporting research in basic science, clinical, translational, or health services anesthesia. The TIG aims to bridge the gap between mentored training and independent research, increasing the likelihood of securing major extramural funding.
