Description
The Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) established the Transnational Initiatives Fund to provide partial travel support for scholars from the Global South to attend its Annual Meeting. This is assistance for meeting participation rather than funding for a particular research project or scientific field. Support is distributed among qualified applicants according to demonstrated need and documented expenses.
The fund uses the American Sociological Association’s definition of the Global South. Its scope includes economically disadvantaged countries and nation-states, as well as politically, economically, and culturally subjugated regions within all countries. Administered through SSSP’s Transnational Initiatives Committee, the fund supports scholars who could not attend the meeting without assistance.
