Description
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) runs this program for Greater Arizona using the federal Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside of the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program. Funding reaches communities through a competitive grant process and a population-based distribution formula. The program supports smaller-scale projects intended to create safer, more connected on- and off-road networks.
Eligible work includes pedestrian and bicycle facilities, recreational trails, Safe Routes to School projects, vulnerable road user safety assessments, and turnouts and overlooks. It also covers transportation-related historic preservation, vegetation management, and environmental mitigation for stormwater, wildlife mortality, or habitat connectivity. Planning studies, educational projects, scoping, design, and construction are among the supported activities.
